Periodic Chick Price

The chick prices reported by Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission (OBHECC) to CFO are shown below. OBHECC also reports a 2 cent per chick cost for Mareks vaccination and a 0.5 cent per chick cost for bronchitis vaccination.

These prices are in effect six weeks prior to the quota period until two weeks into the quota period.

***The live price calculation uses the sexed mixed category with the 2.5 cents per chick added for Mareks and bronchitis vaccinations. This price is then adjusted to reflect the 2% additional chicks provided by hatcheries.

Important Notice:

January 8, 2017 - For Quota Period A-142, the Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg & Chick Commission (OBHECC) has increased its Licence Fees by 0.009 cents per chick.

April 8, 2016 - The Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission (OBHECC) has informed CFO that it has maintained its A-136 price levels for the A-137 pricing period (April 3 to May 28).

As communicated on February 5, 2016, CFO remains engaged in a process with OBHECC and the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission (OFPMC) regarding OBHECC’s Cost of Production formula. CFO will keep its farmer-members and other affected stakeholders updated as appropriate.

February 5, 2016 - The Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission (OBHECC) has advised CFO that it is in the process of reviewing and revising the Cost of Production (COP) formula it uses to price Ontario chicks.

CFO believes that maintaining public trust is essential to the sustainability of the supply management system and that prices in such regulated markets need to be established in a principled manner.

CFO is actively engaged with the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission (OFPMC) and OBHECC to understand and assess the OBHECC COP.

In the interim, OBHECC has established a without prejudice adjustment for A-136 of +2.12 cents/chick to the A-133 chick price.

The adjustment is an interim measure only, and CFO expects that in the longer term, chick prices will be based on an OBHECC COP that is principled and defensible. This interim adjustment should not be interpreted to indicate any future chick prices.

CFO’s engagement with OFPMC and OBHECC is bound by a confidentiality agreement which does not allow CFO to comment on specifics. Going forward, CFO will keep its farmer-members and other affected stakeholders advised on the status of this process.
