Chickens left in the barn after shipping

March 17, 2016 - Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) is committed to delivering operational excellence and takes a proactive risk management strategy went it comes to ensuring that Ontario consumers continue to enjoy a reliable supply of safe, healthy, high quality Ontario chicken. 
This important message serves as a reminder that farmer-members are responsible for the timely and humane euthanasia of any chickens that remain in the barn after load-out.
For your information, CFO has actively engaged and reminded all Ontario processors that pursuant to the terms and conditions of the Form 101, processors have made an agreement to purchase chicken from a farmer-member, and therefore, are responsible for the catching and transporting of all contracted/fit for loading chickens from farmer-members.
The Board is continually evolving its policies and regulations which further enable growth and a sustainable chicken industry. The Board recently reviewed the On-Farm Food Safety Assurance Program and Animal Care Program Policy No. 223-2016 which includes more details on this important issue.
