BURLINGTON, ON – June 27, 2022
– Last week, Premier Ford announced Ontario’s new cabinet. The Hon. Lisa Thompson, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Huron-Bruce, will remain the Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
“We would like to take this opportunity to welcome back Minister Thompson as the Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs,” said Murray Opsteen, Chair, Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “Chicken Farmers of Ontario and its 1300 family-run farms across the province look forward to continuing to work with the Minister to advance mutual priorities and support for supply management.”
CFO is thankful for Minister Thompson’s continued support for supply management – a system that supports both rural and urban communities – and the Ontario chicken industry.
“We appreciate Minister Thompson’s strong support for Ontario farmers and the supply management system,” said Denise Hockaday, CEO, Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “Supply management is a system that Ontarians widely support because it promotes local food production and contributes to the provincial economy without relying on government subsidies.”
Throughout COVID and other recent challenges to the Ontario chicken industry, Minister Thompson has demonstrated leadership and support for farmers and the entire chicken supply chain, and CFO looks forward to continuing to build on our positive, productive relationship.
