CFO Donates Fresh Chicken to Daily Bread Food Bank

Chicken Farmers of Ontario take part in OPS Spring Food Drive at Queen’s Park

TORONTO, ON – April 26, 2019 – Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) participated in the Ontario Public Service Spring Food Drive by donating fresh chicken to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Since 2015, CFO has donated fresh chicken to local food banks across the province through the CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program. To date over 3 million fresh chicken meals have been donated.

“On behalf of the CFO board and our farmer-members, we are pleased to make this donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank. We are proud to help give back to our neighbours, and Ontario families in need,” said Murray Opsteen, Chair of the CFO Cares Working Group, “Since the launch of the CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program, over 500 farms have donated fresh chicken to local food banks, and many farms continue to donate year over year.”

The CFO Cares program makes it possible for chicken farmers to each donate 300 chickens (700kgs) every year to local food banks, providing them with a steady supply of fresh, nutritious, high in protein, locally-grown chicken.

“Under the responsible supply management system, Ontario chicken farmers are providing Ontario consumers with safe, healthy, nutritious, locally-grown chicken,” said Rob Dougans, President and CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario, “Ontario’s chicken farmers support jobs, local economies, and together - through the CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program - our farmer-members are supporting those in need.”
