CFO enhances growth opportunities for prospective chicken processing businesses

BURLINGTON, ON - October 5, 2017 - Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) has announced that it has enhanced its suite of programs for chicken processors.  The application-based new entrant program will now provide additional opportunities for those businesses looking to process chicken and support strategic markets that are currently being underserved in Ontario.  This enhanced processor program was developed following extensive consultations with industry stakeholders.

“Our goal is to grow alongside our current and new entrant processors while shaping a favourable Ontario supply management policy and operating environment that consistently delivers value-creating solutions, and builds confidence and trust,” said Ed Benjamins, Chair of Chicken Farmers of Ontario.

The growth opportunities for new entrant processors will be in the following strategic markets:

1. The target strategic segment for the 2018 CFO New Entrant Chicken Processor Program will be emerging “Ethno-Cultural” markets; and in addition
2. CFO will provide an additional market opportunity under the 2017 CFO New Entrant Chicken Processor Program to support the “Value Added” segment.

“The demand for premium Ontario chicken, grown by local farmers has been experiencing robust growth over the past few years,” said Rob Dougans, President and CEO, Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “CFO continues to focus on evolving our policies and programs to meet these growing markets while also ensuring that emerging consumer markets continue to be well served by both the farmer and the processor communities.”
