Chicken Farmers of Ontario’s New Entrant Program continues to help expand the industry

CFO introduces four new entrant chicken farming families at the AGM

MISSISSAUGA, ON - March 6, 2017 - Henry Zantingh, Chair of Chicken Farmers of Ontario announced that the Board has approved four applicant families for the CFO 2017 New Entrant Chicken Farmers program. The announcement was made during a welcoming ceremony at the CFO Annual General Meeting held today in Mississauga, ON.

The New Entrants selected for 2017 are: 

  • Adrian and Ann Couwenberg of Burgessville, Ontario  in District 3
  • Mike and Krista Edwards of Millbank, Ontario in District 8 
  • Kirk and Teresa Smith of Burford, Ontario in District 6
  • Evan Lambrecht of Bothwell, Ontario in District 3
The 2017 New Entrants were selected from a group of almost 20 applicants that had their applications reviewed by a panel of financial and farming experts. The finalists come from a wide variety of farming backgrounds.
In the five years since CFO first introduced its New Entrant Chicken Farmer Program, the Board has been able to welcome fourteen chicken new farming families into the industry.

The new entrant chicken farmers will be provided with a full set of training materials and will be guided and supported by CFO staff as they proceed with their plans to start up their chicken farming operations.
