Fresh Ideas, Growing Together

Chicken Industry Takes Powerful Message to Queen's Park

On Tuesday April 19, the Ontario Chicken industry hosted its 2016 Chicken Day celebrations at Queen's Park.  The annual event is an opportunity for the CFO Board, working together with the Association of Ontario Chicken Processors (AOCP) to help educate legislators and their staff about the supply management system, the economic contribution of the Ontario chicken industry and the importance of maintaining a strong local family farming presence in Ontario.

CFO Board Directors and District Committee Representatives met individually with more than 30 MPPs (many for the first time) to discuss the industry and its ongoing success in providing innovative growth solutions for the province while continuing to meet new and emerging consumer markets.

“The Ontario chicken industry generates almost $3 billion each year in economic activity and creates jobs for 20,000 Ontarians,” noted CFO Chair Henry Zantingh during his remarks to a packed Queen's Park event. “It is an agricultural and agri-food success story worth celebrating.”

The team was recognized in the legislature by representatives from all three political parties including the Hon. Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Opposition agriculture portfolio critics Toby Barrett and John Vanthof, as well as other friends of the industry such as MPPs Monte Kwinter, Lisa Thompson and Tim Hudak.
