Collaborating to drive the continued success of the Ontario chicken industry

CFO Board of Directors and District Committee Representatives team participate in annual Policy Workshop
GUELPH, ON – JUNE 20, 2019 – The Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) Board of Directors were pleased to engage with the District Committee Representatives (DCRs) team on June 19th and 20th in Guelph, Ontario for an annual Policy Workshop. This event is one of the various opportunities for the farmer-elected DCRs and the Board of Directors to review policy, strategy, and approaches to drive the success of our industry.  
“Our DCRs act in a consultative capacity both with the Board of Directors and the farmer-members within their Districts,” said Ed Benjamins, Chair, Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “Meeting regularly with our DCRs, including at this annual Policy Workshop, allows us to have important discussions and generate insights that help shape our policies to advance our industry and deliver on our commitments.”
As part of the workshop, CFO welcomed Jim Clark, Chair of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission. Chair Clark provided an update on the ongoing and solid relationship between CFO and the Commission - as we collaborate to continue to move the industry forward, together.
CFO DCRs and the Board of Directors also invited local farmer-members to a breakfast seminar on June 20th in advance of the day’s policy session, where special-guest speaker Crystal Mackay, Founder & CEO of LOFT 32, gave a presentation on consumer perceptions and expectations of chicken farming. The breakfast seminar also provided an opportunity for farmer-members to engage and interact with their Board Members and DCRs to discuss tools for managing industry pressures both on and off the farm.
Rob Dougans, President & CEO of CFO, stated that “the collaboration between our Board of Directors, DCRs, and our farmer-members is an important part of how we build value and shape the future of chicken farming across the province. The insights gained from the discussions at these events will help us to continue to support business momentum.”
