Local government representatives join chicken farmers for donation showcase event

PORT HOPE, ON – July 12, 2012 – Representatives from all three levels of government joined Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) to present fresh, healthy, locally-grown chicken to the Fare Share Food Bank.
Local farmers were joined by Kim Rudd, MP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, and Bob Sanderson, Mayor of Port Hope for the donation showcase event.
The donation was made as part of the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program, which donates about 1 million fresh chicken meals to food banks throughout the province each year, in partnership with Feed Ontario.
Feed Ontario supports 500,000 adults, seniors, and children that visit food banks in Ontario each year. Launched in 2015, CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks is a collaborative initiative that enables farmers to donate up to 300 local-grown chickens to food banks across the province. This year, nearly 500 Ontario family farms are participating in the program and donating fresh, healthy, locally-grown chicken to Ontarians in need.
“Ontario’s chicken farmers are community members, volunteers, coaches, group leaders, and families that take pride in helping our neighbours and giving what we can, when we can,” said Tim Klompmaker, Board Director of Chicken Farmers of Ontario, “Through our CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program, hundreds of farmer families donate to local food banks in communities across Ontario, doing our part to tackle hunger.”
“Under the responsible supply management system, Ontario chicken farmers are providing Ontario consumers with safe, healthy, nutritious, locally-grown chicken,” said Rob Dougans, President and CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario, “Ontario’s chicken farmers support jobs, local economies, and together - through the CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program - our farmer-members are supporting those in need.”
