Feather Boards ramp-up incident management response skill and capacity

BURLINGTON, ON – January 29, 2019 – Staff from Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) and some of Ontario’s other feather boards attended and completed two days of basic training on Ontario’s Incident Management System (IMS).  IMS provides standardized organizational structures, functions, processes and terminology, to improve effectiveness and efficiency in response to any level of emergency.
“Training on Ontario’s Incident Management System means that CFO and Ontario’s other feather boards will be better prepared and more effective in responding to any level of incident,” said Dr. Tom Baker from Ontario’s Feather Board Command Centre (FBCC), who led the training in collaboration with experienced certified staff from Ontario’s feather boards, “When emergencies do occur, these staff will be able to resort to their training, understand the chain of command, and more effectively fulfill roles as they are assigned.”
“Completing this training is part of CFO’s commitment to effective risk management,” said Ed Benjamins, Chair of Chicken Farmer of Ontario. “Our farmer-members work hard to prevent any incidents or emergencies on their farms. CFO is taking additional precautions by ensuring that CFO staff are trained and understand Ontario’s Incident Management System, should they ever be called on to respond to an incident or emergency of any level.”
“This training is all about preparing for the unexpected, and developing a better understanding of the systems in place that direct how government, first responders, and our partners respond to incidents in our province,” said Rob Dougans, President and CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario, “CFO is proud to work Ontario’s other feather boards and with industry stakeholders, through the FBCC, to ensure that our staff are ready and share a common understanding of incident management.”
The IMS Doctrine presents a comprehensive framework for incident management in Ontario and is maintained by Emergency Management Ontario under the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
FBCC was developed to coordinate the Ontario poultry industry’s emergency response to targeted diseases (eg. federally reportable Avian Influenza and Infectious Laryngotracheitis) through promoting preparedness, prevention, response and recovery.
