Ontario chicken featured at Premier Ford’s “Taste of Ontario” BBQ

Chicken Farmers of Ontario celebrates local food week with dignitaries from around the world

TORONTO, ON – June 5, 2019 – It’s local food week in Ontario, and Premium Ontario Chicken made its international debut as Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) was pleased to participate in Premier Doug Ford’s “Taste of Ontario” back-yard BBQ - where over 200 diplomatic dignitaries from around the world were in attendance.

Representing over 1,300 family-run farms across the province, CFO ensures that Ontarians have access to safe, healthy, high-quality chicken – and CFO was able to showcase the good work of Ontario’s chicken farmers at tonight’s event.

“We were honoured to be asked to participate in this esteemed event,” said Ed Benjamins, Chair, Chicken Farmers of Ontario - direct from the BBQ held at the Premier’s family residence in Etobicoke. “As farmers, we take great pride in the birds that we raise, and we’re delighted to share our product.”

Benjamins also stated that “we’re pleased to celebrate local food week – and the CFO Board commends the government for their relentless focus on supporting our local food economy.”

Partnering with the culinary program at George Brown College, CFO provided chicken wings and chicken skewers at the BBQ – which were grown by local farmers across the province, and processed by Sargent Farms in Milton, Ontario. ‘Halal by hand’ chicken was also on the menu in recognition of the end of Ramadan fasting for many Ontarians.

“Local food is an economic engine in the province,” stated Rob Dougans, President & CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “Chicken accounts for over $3.7 billion in economic activity and supports over 22,000 local jobs. We continue to grow and expand, and we are committed to delivering innovative solutions that meet the protein needs of Ontarians.”
