Fresh Ideas, Growing Together

Premier Kathleen Wynne and Minister Michael Coteau Join CFO to Support Don Mills Food Bank

Chicken Farmers of Ontario’s food bank donation program ‘CFO Cares’ continues to make an impact with communities in need.

On Friday, September 8, CFO Chair Ed Benjamins and 2nd Vice Chair Murray Opsteen along with DCR Alfred Rumph, held a chicken donation event with Premier Kathleen Wynne and Hon. Michael Coteau, Minister for Children and Youth Services. The event was held at the Flemingdon Community Food Bank and, along with the donation of some 1,500 lbs of fresh chicken, helped to raise awareness of the ongoing food insecurity of many Ontarians in the community.

Over the past several months CFO has worked with the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) to reach out specifically to communities within the GTA to create high profile events that can help increase awareness of the needs of the hungry in the province.  This campaign has proven highly successful. This summer CFO hosted foodbank donation and awareness raising events with the Hon. Eleanor McMahon in Burlington, the Hon. Laura Albanese in North York, the Hon. Mitzie Hunter in Scarborough, Premier Kathleen Wynne and Hon Michael Coteau in Don Mills, MPP Yvan Baker in Etobicoke and with the Hon. Michael Chan at an upcoming event in Markham later this month.

CFO Cares is now in its third year and continues to grow each year with more farmers participating in the program and more chicken delivered to foodbanks across the province.
