Fresh Ideas, Growing Together

Strong show of support for our industry at recent Regional Meetings

To our farmer-members:

We have just finished our sixth, and final, Fall Regional Meeting.

We know that it’s a busy time of year for everyone, but we were so pleased that over one-third of our membership was able to come out and take part in the discussions!

We talked about the recent trade negotiations, and how the new market access granted under the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) will impact our industry going forward.

We reported back on all the recent relationship building that has taken place with our new Provincial Government. We have spent a significant amount of time meeting with Premier Doug Ford, Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister, the Hon. Ernie Hardeman, and many rural and urban MPPs from across the Province.

We talked about the current status and the next steps surrounding the Cost of Production Formula 2019 and shared with you our unwavering commitment to the process. We are very aware of our responsibility to ensure that our farming community thrives. We reiterate that farming must be financially fair and rewarding – in the short and long term.

We were pleased to announce that the Ontario chicken industry will now be safeguarded against the economic perils of Avian Influenza (AI) – as the Board has secured AI disease insurance on behalf of all farmer-members.

And, we spent a significant amount of time working with you, our farmer-members, to ensure we understand your input and direction into the next CFO Strategic Plan.

Through the feedback that you provided in the recent Farmer-Member Engagement Survey, and the feedback gleaned from the strategic planning sessions held at the Regional Meetings, the Board has a solid understanding of what matters to the membership – and we will be incorporating your direction as we work to round out the upcoming plan. We will keep you updated as the work progresses.

As year-end will be here before we know it, I wanted to take this opportunity to follow-up on a few items:

  • A reminder that we are now in the middle of District Meetings (held in the evenings in your local communities) – and that we are holding Board and DCR nominations in Districts 1-5. • Lastly, I’d like to draw your attention to the picture above. This was taken at our Regional Meeting in London, ON. Everyone in the room is wearing their CFO Cares ‘Homegrown Good’ red donor hats! We took this picture after an incredible show of support from you, our farmer-members, for the Farmers to Food Banks program. Coming out of the Regional Meetings, we have added over 100 new donors to the Program – but we can’t stop there. If you’re not a donor, CLICK HERE to watch a short video clip - detailing how and why you should sign-up to donate today!
On behalf of my fellow Board Directors, thank you for your continued commitment to raising Premium Ontario Chicken with passion and care!

Sincerely,

Ed Benjamins, Chair
